Thunder Bay To Sault Ste. Marie, ONThis morning we depart eastward along Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes of North America, and considered the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area. If Mother Nature has been on time, you will be awed by the spectacular fall colours, especially the Red Sugar Maples!
Sault Ste. Marie To Niagara Falls, ONToday’s travels takes us to our destination as we pass Sudbury and drive through beautiful scenic cottage country in the Georgian Bay area of Lake Huron. The skyline of Toronto in the distance tells us we are nearing Niagara Falls, our home for the next 4 nights. Nestled between two Great Lakes and dominated by the awesome backdrop of the Niagara escarpment, Niagara Falls and Region showcase Mother Nature at her most powerful and at her most pastoral.
Niagara FallsYou are now in one of the major tourist attractions in the world! After a leisurely breakfast we will depart on an orientation tour of the area. You will see both the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls, Clifton Hill, the most famous street in Niagara Falls and a drive along the scenic Niagara Parkway. After lunch, we experience a Niagara Falls highlight. You will don rain slickers and sail right to the base of Horseshoe Falls on an exhilarating boat trip “The Hornblower”. A never-to-be-forgotten ride on the Niagara River where you will have a front row seat with an amazing panoramic view of the thundering cascading falls. Next witness the wonder as you experience Journey Behind the Falls. The observation deck at the foot of this 13-storey-tall wonder will leave you breathless (and maybe a little bit wet), but don’t forget the viewing portals cut straight through the rock, offering a once-in-a-lifetime view of one-fifth of the world’s fresh water crashing down in front of you.
Niagara-On-The -LakeA short scenic drive on the Niagara Parkway will take us to the delightful historic town of Niagara-On-The-Lake, situated where the Niagara River empties into Lake Ontario. This charming town is known for its beautiful preserved 19th century architecture and the Shaw Festival. It is a most interesting Old Town, with boutiques, Victorian buildings, museums and fine restaurants on Queen St. You will have time to wander and explore on your own.Niagara-On-The-Lake is noted for its many wineries and vineyards that grow the grapes used to produce internationally known wines. We drive through this scenic area with a stop for an authentic wine country experience.Enjoy a guided tour and wine tasting at Chateau Des Charmes vineyard & winery. After the tour and tasting enjoy a scrumptious lunch with a view and glass of wine, a perfect ending to our day!
