DAY 1 Winnipeg To Duluth, MNOur comfortable motor coach heads for the border where our first stop will be at the Emerson Duty Free Store. As you gaze out the window at the unfolding scenery you will be occupied in meeting your new travelling companions. We cross Minnesota lake-studded countryside, and after lunch and coffee breaks en route, we arrive in Duluth.
DAY 2 Duluth To Mackinac Island, Lake Huron, MIAfter breakfast our coach heads eastward through Wisconsin and then the picturesque Upper Peninsula of Michigan. You will marvel at the miles of secluded beaches on Lake Superior and Lake Michigan as we cruise along. Soon we catch a glimpse of “Mighty Mac”, the bridge that joins the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan. As we head to the Ferry Terminal at St. Ignace and board our ferry for the short ride on Lake Huron to the Island, our home for the next three nights. Upon arrival, discover how the neighs and clip-clops of horses replace the roar of engines. This quiet island of yesteryear evokes a nostalgia that truly inspires the senses. The island is a natural gem with over eighty present of its land preserved by Mackinac State Park, a wooded paradise accented with limestone formations and ringed by Lake Huron.
DAY 3 Mackinac IslandThis morning we travel in style to view this unique island in its entirety! Climb aboard your horse-drawn carriage and with a local guide you will experience this island in great depth. See the “down-town” area and the outlying districts with their buildings in Victorian style architecture, beautiful views of the lakes with Mackinaw City visible in the distance. Don't forget your cameras! Lunch time will be a special treat a magnificent buffet lunch at the glorious Victorian-era Grand Hotel a National Historic Landmark, Mackinac Island's most famous attraction. Enjoy stunning views while sitting on the famous front porch of the Grand Hotel. The balance of the day will be free for you to enjoy all of Mackinac Island’s quiet pleasures.
DAY 4 Mackinac IslandA whole day to enjoy this unique little island at your leisure. Though small in size it appeals to all tastes and best of all, most everything is within walking distance of your hotel. If you're an explorer, you can walk the quiet paths in the State Forest or hike the trails along Lake Michigan, or rent a bike and pedal yourself around the whole island.Take a stroll through quaint downtown to visit the shops and buy some fudge, a favorite item on the island, see some of the original buildings of the early settlers. If museums are to your liking, two butterfly museums will delight you. Experience this all in a traffic-free atmosphere.
DAY 5 Mackinac Island to Duluth, MNWe reluctantly bid adieu to this little island, as we board the ferry to St. Ignace. Duluth is our destination once again for our overnight.
DAY 6 Duluth To Winnipeg, MBThis morning we enjoy a scenic tour of Duluth before heading home. Last chance for shopping at Grand Forks and then a stop to pick up our Duty Free items in Pembina. Our Mackinac odyssey may be over this time, but memories of sights seen and friends met will linger forever.
